Can Your Infant Sleep in the Stroller?

A sleeping baby is a happy baby… and this means, happy mommy and daddy as well. So whether or not a stroller accommodates a sleeping infant is a key qualifier in my book for infant strollers.

Remember that newborns and infants are sleeping for 18 hours a day so even a quick errand or two can fall right in the middle of, at the end of, or beginning of… naptime. Having a fully reclining seat, a “Bassinet-style” seat, or an infant seat attachment is critical to your sanity. Of course, every stroller company is happy to indulge by designing various features that will create sweet mobile dreams for the whole family.

The latest trend is bassinet-style seating. Similar to the classic old-style carriages, they are basically cribs on wheels. Look to the European companies for options like Inglesina’s Classica or the more contemporary Bertini Simo Carriage. For practicality’s sake, these bassinets can be switched out for a toddler seat as your infant grows.

The other option is a stroller that has multiple back rest positions, like the Peg Perego Venezia. Standard on the Peg Peregos are a built-in footbar that makes reclining, even as a toddler, more comfortable.

This was truly a life-saver in our family. Once pumpkin was in the pumpkin seat, she was good to go! There were many a naps when we would just leave her in the seat even after we got home, it being equally comfortable on the floor of her nursery as attached to the stroller or car seat base.
